René Brar is a Vancouver-born producer and filmmaker whose work spans independent film, television, and international format development.

After studying film at Yale University, he gained early production experience working on films directed by Todd Haynes and Todd Solondz. He later moved to Los Angeles, where he worked as a development executive for Ridley Scott before focusing on his own producing and directing career.

Brar made his feature directorial debut with Taylor’s Way, a visually atmospheric drama that premiered at the Potenza International Film Festival in 2009, where it won the Audience Prize. His second feature, Martin’s Pink Pickle, a bittersweet coming-of-age story, premiered at the Vancouver International Film Festival in 2014. His 2025 short horror film, Away with the Fairies, screened at Fantasia International Film Festival and Overlook Film Festival, and won Best Horror Film at the Berlin Short Film Festival.

As a television producer, Brar has developed and sold original formats to major international streamers and broadcasters including Netflix, NBCUniversal, Sony Pictures Television, Virgin Media Television, and Channel 4.

He holds both a bachelor’s degree in film and a master’s degree in religion from Yale University.
